FRIDAY, August 6, 2010 MEETING NOTES Volume 44, Issue 45

We had 17 Optimists today. The Mystery Greeter was Maxine Lane who greeted Beth Frieders. John Urness, John Dutcher, Beth Frieders, Maxine Lane, Hap Daus, Charlie Clark, Tom Nall and Ken Kamps wore their Optimist shirts today.

Today’s Speaker – Cheese Curds

Our speaker was not available this morning, so we had an impromptu talk by John Urness about cheese curds. He spoke about how it was like a spa experience with the heat and oils that permeate the skin. He talked about how you can increase sales by threatening to sing cheese curd carols.

In all seriousness, he also talked about how he sent a Crew Chief checklist to all who are designated as Crew Chief. He advised that whoever is on shift when the Health Inspector comes, to pull out the inspection sheet from last year as a helpful gesture.

There was talk about quitting too early at the Grant Co fair last year. The crews have to weigh the increased income and good will against the need to have a good, thorough clean up. It will be up to the crews on shift to determine when to quit.

FRIEND OF OPTIMISTS

The club voted to pay for the first year sponsorship fee of $100 each to the Platteville Police Department, Platteville Journal and Queen B radio as a Friend of Optimists (FOO). There are reward programs where we can actually get back money for sponsoring this.

CHEESE CURDS

It is that time again! Sign up for Grant Co Fair August 18 – 22 and Dairy Days September 10 – 12. Sign up on the web.

There is a new item on the request list. John & Gary have requested that someone sign up to be a "coordinator" for the day. That person is the "go to" person for the shift leader in case of questions, needing batter, etc.

There is a request to do Potosi Brewfest on Aug 28. The club will allow Fennimore to do this. Gary Engelke will assist.

The club has opened up vacant slots to the Noon club. Ken listed a number of names of members who could not be contacted.

FIRST FRIDAY

The First Friday Free Breakfast drawing went on forever with over 35 member names drawn. The winners from those present were Duane Borgen and Ken Kamps. Winners from those NOT present were Mike Olds and Dan Cotter. Winners get a Free Breakfast if they attend a meeting in the month of August.
