We had 18 Optimists & guests today. The only guest was our speaker. The Mystery Greeter was Charlie Clark who greeted Doug Martin. John Urness, Charlie Clark, Ken Kamps, Tom Nall, Gary Engelke and Hap Daus wore their Optimist shirts today.

Today’s Speaker – John Hassig - Heartland Festival

John Hassig was here for his regular update on the CFA, specifically for the Heartland Festival this summer. He said this is the 10th season of the Heartland Festival. It is his 9th and 7th as the Director. They will be doing many things to celebrate the 10th season.

The first production is “A Prom to Die For”, beginning on June 11. It will be John’s directing debut at the Heartland festival and they will have a dinner theater for $25.

Another production is "The Taffetas". it is a female version of “Forever Plaid”. It is a clean & wholesome tribute to the girl groups of the 50’s with many medleys. It begins on June 18.

The next one he spoke about was “The 25th Annual Putnam Co. Spelling Bee”. There will be 6 adults playing kids at a spelling bee. It is very funny with the “overachiever” and many other traits you see in school. It begins on June 25.

“Beauty and the Beast” is their BIG show. John plays Belle’s father. It will have the detailed scenery and the pit orchestra. Performances begin on July 9.

They will hold Cabaret Night on July 11 where they will sing Broadway songs from plays done at the Heartland festival and they invited “alumni” to help.

This is the 7th season for Missoula Children’s Theater. They will be doing “The Jungle Book” with 64 kids from K-12th grade. They had to turn away 15 – 20 kids. They started with only 35 kids 7 years ago. They may consider a 2nd week to get the other kids involved. Performances are July 16 & 17.

A cast of 18 kids will put on Schoolhouse Rock Live (Junior). It will be a nostalgic view of “Conjunction Junction” and other things from the Saturday morning cartoons. performances will be on July 23 & 24.

After 9 of the Saturday PM shows, there will be a Late Night Cabaret for each performer. They will get 30 minutes to perform a solo act of songs that influenced their lives.

At the Nohr Gallery there will be an exhibit caled H10 for the 10 years of Heartland Festival. The exhibit is a trip down "memory lane" with designs, art and photos from the past seasons. This will run from June 7 to August 7 with an Opening Reception on June 12 at 5:30 p.m.

Sales started on May 3 and they have over $8,000 in sales so far. A bus load is coming from Fond du Lac. If you buy a 4 pack of tickets, you get $1 off each ticket.

Thanks for the wonderful speech!
