FRIDAY, November 6, 2009 MEETING NOTES Volume 44, Issue 6

We had 18 Optimists today. The Mystery Greeter was Hap Daus who greeted Virg Pufahl. Gary Engelke, John Urness, John Dutcher, Hap Daus, Charlie Clark, Tom Nall and Virg Pufahl wore their Optimist shirts today.

Today’s Speaker - None

President Tom Nall spoke about upcoming events and the lack of people to step up to get speakers. He passed out a piece of paper asking for ideas for speakers and topics. One of the items on the list was a tour of the Stone Cottage. Another was a Tour of First National Bank.

Maxine Lane volunteered to host the November 20 meeting at FNB. They are hosting a Mitten Tree where people can donate mittens, gloves, scarves and hats to needy families in the area.

Tom went over the upcoming events - like the November 14 social at the Lane’s house followed by a play at the Grand Opera House in Dubuque followed by a special dessert back at the Lane’s.

He noted that the local Oratorical Contest will be on March 12, 2010. We should get any info on the Oratorical or Essay contest to Holly Cook.

Tom mentioned that the Holiday Project wants us to collect toys from Piggly Wiggly and deliver to Peace Lutheran Church daily from November 23 to Dec 5.

The Badger Camp Telethon will be held on December 5 from 1:30 - 3:00 p.m. We are donating our print from OI to the fundraiser, plus we are presenting our $800 check to Badger Camp during our shift.

Next week Tom will show a DVD from OI on their new Internet Safety Program. It will help make us aware of the dangers on the Internet and how we can help parents keep their kids safe using this valuable tool.

Thanks for filling in as speaker!
