Today’s Speaker - President Tom Nall - Club Business
|
President Tom Nall spoke to us first about club business. The first order of business was the 2009 - 2010 budget. We are including a copy in the printed newsletter and you can click on the link above to see a copy. We have an Internal Account where the member dues are the largest source of revenue. This account pays for OI and SWIS dues, guest breakfasts and general operating expenses like postage, supplies, etc. As it is currently indicated, there is slightly over $100 available for unforeseen expenses. We also have a Youth Account. The largest fundraiser - Cheese Curd sales - accounts for 95% of our funds available for serving youth. |
We expect a total of $15,775 for youth. We expend those funds for our Community Service projects - like Post-Prom donation and Chamber membership. We have our Youth Activities like the Essay, Oratorical Contests, our Sports team sponsorships, etc. This also includes the cost of insurance for our involvement in these activities. It costs $10 per member per year. We have allocated some funds for miscellaneous unforeseen requests up to about $1,200. Jerry Schewe spoke about the dues increase. We increased dues a total of $12 per year. $10 of this is for increased OI dues. The other $2 per year assists our internal account. |
The increase in OI dues is because of declining membership, a change in IRS rules and normal increases. Jerry says that our donations to the OI Foundation reduces dues by up to $40 per year! The budget passed. Tom also gave us 10 questions to answer. Things like - What did you do on your last vacation? Who did last thank? When was the last time you forgave someone? And When was the last time you were "too large for worry..."? It was a chance to take stock and figure how you are living your life and how you can live up to the Optimist Creed. |
