Today’s Speaker - John Hassig - 2008 Heartland Festival

Here is a file photo of John Hassig, the Director of Performing Arts at the Center for Fine Arts. He spoke to us today about the 2008 Heartland Festival schedule.

This is the 8th year of the Heartland Festival. It starts on June 13 and ends on August 3. There are 4 main plays and the annual children’s theater.

The first play is “Wake Me When I’m Dead”. It runs from June 13 – August 2. It is a comedy about the guests at an Irish wake and the reading of a will. It will be mostly Dinner Theater shows.

The next show is “I Love You, You’re Perfect … Now Change”. It premieres on June 20 and runs through August 1. It is a PG rated musical comedy about relationships and first dates.

The third show is “A Year with Frog and Toad”. This is a family musical show with Ann Fairley directing. He says it is also a Jazz Show. It starts on June 27 and ends on August 2.

The last show is “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”. It is the largest show with 80 members, including a 51 member children’s chorus. John is in this show. It starts on July 11 and wraps up the season on August 3.

The Children’s show will have 2 directors from the Missoula Children’s Theater as before. They do casting on Monday July 21 and have shows on Friday July 25 and Saturday July 26. They will do “Robinson Crusoe”.

John says they will have “Cabaret Night” on July 13th. They will sing songs from shows they wish they were in. Many of the acts are “PG-13” or “R” rated. They will start rehearsals after Memorial Day.

He gave teasers about next year and was very proud that 2000 children came to performances this past year. He hopes to get as many as 6000 next year. He thinks he can get 3 shows in at 9:15, 10:45 and 1:30.

Thanks for the wonderful speech!

Mark Friday, May 2 on your calendar to attend the Optimist spring fling social. We will gather at 7:00pm at Henry's Pub for and evening of card playing (Euchre) and other games. It's important that you bring your significant other because you won't have a good time without.
Prize opportunities for winners, losers, and for just showing up. We'll have Joker Draw for the true optimists.

JOKER DRAW

Arnie Roper was the one selected. He drew the King of Clubs and won $2. If he won the pot, his share would have been $240. Good luck to next week’s winner.
